Safe and Inclusive
T.R.A.P.P. Stars Inc. provides opportunities for young people to reach their full potential, the skills and confidence to make healthy choices, successfully navigating adolescents.
While the focus of our organization is to keep young people drug and alcohol free, we believe that the most effective way to do this is by addressing root causes that contribute to drug and alcohol use and abuse. Because of this, we address many issues such as homelessness, suicide, depression, and other related issues.
How it Started
The History
T.R.A.P.P. Stars Inc. began in the summer of 2018 when founders Jasmine Goodman & Jawana Burley wanted to see a better lifestyle for our youth in our communities do better and live better. T.R.A.P.P. Stars was created beyond traditional substance abuse prevention efforts by actively engaging young people to make healthy choices through positive alternative activities all while addressing key root causes of substance use and abuse in fun and meaningful ways for young people.
Moving Forward
The Future
Since its start, T.R.A.P.P. Stars Inc. has hosted an average of 5 events this year in some of the worst crime areas in Washington, DC (wards 7 & 8) drawing some of our youth that we have worked with under the Department of Youth Services (DYRS) to participate in safe, drug free activities. T.R.A.P.P. has learned that young people appreciate these activates and thrive with opportunities to feel safe and accepted. It is time to build on our success and find a permanent home for events so that instead of supporting our young people we can begin to find housing and work for our young people.
What does T.R.A.P.P. Stand for?
The word TRAPP is derived from the prefix meaning to engage in, which inspired T.R.A.P.P. Stars Inc, acronym,
T eaching

This is an acronym, our youth can relate to that exposes them to a positive outlet on themselves first, then to their world view. These events and opportunities create a safe environment that helps young people develop a sense of purpose, boost self-esteem, and build skills for success.
